it's funny how i don't have any dark and twisty thoughts when school isn't in session. actually, it might be sort of sad, because that means school has far too big of an impact on my emotional well-being. it's also weird, because i never stressed out about school - not in high school, not in college (when i hated my major) - until grad school. it must be something about venturing blindly into a field where half the class already has background knowledge of the material, or the fact that grades are assigned relatively. either way, i feel out of my element.
anyways, i bought two books at b&n yesterday - "the memory keeper's daughter" and "snow flower and the secret fan." the former came highly recommended, and the latter, as you can probably tell, is by an asian author. i hope to have at least one of these read by the time school recommences... in 5 days :( i remember how i used to devour several-hundred-page books in just a couple of hours; these days, reading is synonymous with (school)work, which is something i could do with a little less of. it sucks that academia has sapped the joy out of leisure reading.
lately, i've had this urge to move. while nothing can be done about that at the present moment, the prospects after graduation are wide open. NY? LA? SF? i've never been a fan of california, but it seems to be most people's dream location. we'll see, though. i do love dallas... and while i adapt easily after choices are made, pushing myself to make that initial decision is difficult. i am not averse to change; i am just slow to make it.
