in two days i will be leaving for a 2-week trip to taiwan. you'd think i was being deported, the way i feel about this vacation. i'm not exactly dreading it, but i'm not looking forward to it, either. i'm not really sure what's wrong with me - most people would be delighted to take an overseas trip, whether it be to visit relatives, experience a new locale, or just take a breather from the daily grind. my trip to new york this past summer occurred much the same way, starting out with excitement at having bought the tickets, and gradually devolving into a certain ambivalence. i'm not afraid of traveling by air, nor do i dislike taiwanese culture. i'm a creature of comfort and extremely americanized, but i am also interested in what asia has to offer. i can only speculate that this incertitude is due to not being ready:
i am not done shopping for my parents. i have not planned out my course schedule for next semester. i have not found that new bed that i was so intent on purchasing weeks ago. i have not yet experienced the full breadth of the holiday season in america, replete with festive trees, deliciously cold weather, and exuberant christmas cheer. i have not even let the fact that i've finally graduated sink in. if this odd deflated vacation mentality is to continue for every trip from here on out, i might as well cancel my plane tickets to vegas now.
