bad weekend

i got my car towed friday night, and let me tell you... i was pisssseeed. we went to sting, a nightclub in addison, and parked in the lot directly behind the venue. the lot technically belonged to the restaurant behind sting, but it was closed by the time we got there, so we didn't give it another thought. i mean, who would tow us, and the other 15 cars in the lot? we got there late, so we'd only be inside for a little over an hour, anyway. well, long story short... they towed us. AND the other 15 cars next to us. WTF. so we spent some QT in the empty parking lot with the other unfortunate patrons whose vehicles were also confiscated until someone came to pick us up.

after spending a really frustrating night wanting to strangle the rude bitch who picked up the phone at the towing lot, i woke up to pick up garbage at UTD. yes, that's right. at 11 am, i woke my ass up and "volunteered" to do menial labor. the things i will do to put 3 measly greek letters on my resume... gah! i won't even be initiated this sunday, because i'll be out of town. i'm pretty annoyed that this professional organization has such crappy leadership, changing dates last minute and arranging mandatory "volunteer" events that the school already pays people to do.

anyway, the rest of my saturday afternoon was spent playing phone tag with a zillion different people. we had made an initial trip to the towing lot, to find that my car was not there (or at least, it wasn't in the system). so then i called sting, who said they didn't own the parking lot, and therefore did not have my car towed. i then called sweet tomatoes, the restaurant - who said they had an agreement with sting stipulating that the club would handle any patrons who decide to park in the restaurant's lot after hours. uhh, ok. so nobody wanted to take responsibility for towing my car. i called the plano police, who referred me to the addison police, who then referred me to the dallas police, who could not find my car in the system. i was all ready to call in a stolen vehicle report, having called each venue at least three times, and not getting any answers. it was SO frustrating! finally, the dallas police went through their records manually, and found a license plate number that was very similar to mine - only different by one number. well, it turns out that was my vehicle. the transposed license plate number belonged to someone's corolla, which was NOT towed. stupid fucking towing company.... doing the paperwork wrong! what is even more retarded is that they didn't even know the difference between a scion and a corolla. when i called, they said they did not have any scions on the lot. what... the fuck. is literacy not a prerequisite for being a towing lot attendant? so yeah... late at night, we had to make another trip back out to the ghettos of dallas to retrieve my car for real. sigh. $193 gone. a weekend of stress and lots of anger. all that compounded with emotional backwash... and that made my weekend shitastic. i don't think i've ever cursed so much in the span of 24 hours.

i did find the wall of the towing lot trailer kinda funny, though. people who have had their cars taken by cretinous towing companies are not a happy bunch:

anyway, i can say that today, sunday, was much more productive, if not TAX-ing, ha ha. yes, i'm corny :P i finished 90% of my partnership tax return project, and did my REAL taxes too. it was my first time doing them by myself, and i actually felt accomplished. i guess maybe i DID learn something from work, because filing taxes was such a breeze. i guess that's one thing i can mark off my list of real-world-things-to-learn. now, to see if i actually get back the amount calculated....

wow. how ironic. weren't we just talking about having your car towed the other night while outside The Counter? good times, eh?

how is sting? i heard about it when it first opened but wasn't sure what the crowd was like.
